WHAT DOES THIS STORY ARGUE ABOUT (DIS)ABILITES?

The story reported in this is clip argues about how we should not judge people because they are different. Just because someone is disable doesn't mean he/she is not capable of doing something amazing like a normal person. It’s true that we never know what to except from a disable person but just because they have a disability doesn't mean that they can't do anything. The story of Jason McElwain, a student of Greece Athena High clearly shows that anyone is capable of achieving anything they want as long as they have the drive and passion for it. So I say that this review is not just arguing about disabilities but of the concept of supporting in one and other.
I believe that we should not judge a book by it cover. I think that this guy was very special and he show alot of heart. Everybody show respect for him and that is good because I would have show respect for him too. This story was good because it made me think about how we should become more aware of helping people and doing what is right.Rather then over look them.
The clip shows that we should not judge people of what they're capable of doing, just because they're disabled. If someone really wanted to go for something then they could achieve it, if they really wanted it. This clip argues that disabled people can still do things like normal people do, that's why we shouldn't under estimate them or think that were better than them.
The video was very moving...I think that this video argues that anything is possible. Jason McElwan is disabled and yet he was able to score twenty points within four minutes. I believe that even if one is disabled, they too can make a miracle or can shine like Jason did. It's about hardwork and dedication in which Jason had all along....

In our society, we have an obligation to find a way to include people with different abilities. In this case, Jason McElwain, a senior at Greece Athena High School who had an autistic disorder and usually sits on his basketball team’s bench, was given the opportunity to shine. Therefore the argument presented in this story is that never judge a book by it's cover. People with disabilites are capable of performing functions just like normal people. They should be given the chance and respect like everyone else.

I find it somewhat awesome that the coach of the team actually let jason play. It's kind of annoying at times when people patronize those with disabilities because all it does is hurt them. Patronizing disabled people doesn't make them un-disabled, and by doing that you are making that person feel as if they really cannot do normal things. The problem with this of course, is the fact that disabled people CAN move on and do normal things. Allowing Jason to play is something that should be learned from by all people. The moral being that disabled people are still people and shouldn't be treated any different than anyone else in the sense of being able to do things and overcoming obstacles.

In our society we tend to shove people with disabilities to the side. Although, we may not mean to do it happens. In this case allowing Jason to play shows us that people with disabilities can also do what normal people do. We just have to learn and give others the opportunity to shine regardless of their condition.

Wow, what an inspirational clip! I think this footage is so helpful for people to be exposed to disabilities and specifically autism. I think the biggest miracles we see are based on compassion and encouragement. With more and more exposure to disabilities the masses are learning that people can overcome many obstacles, and quite possibly the biggest obstacle is acceptance and encouragement from others.

Great comments so far, and I agree with the claim that as a whole, we have to make space and accomodations for alternatively-abled folks. I am also interested in the word "normal." Who decides what is "normal?" Normal according to who? Two percent of all live births result in random, non-genetic "abnormalities" -- That's alot of folks...maybe we are all just different and we need to stretch our minds around the idea that difference is cool and ok--What do you think? Embrace the diversity you come across in life!
GREAT JOB ON FILM SPEECHES EVERYONE!!!!!!! Smiles--S
This clip is very moving and inspirational. It definitely shows that anything is possible, and, regardless, we should always reach for the stars. I know that is so cheesy and cliche, but with some encouragement and motivation, every single person is capable of accomplishing our goals and passions in life. Just because one person or many people tell you it is not possible, people should never give up; you never know when you will get your chance or opportunity. Just like Jason- his good sprirt and patience paid off because he finally got his well-deserved chance to shine!

This clip is used as a tool of motivation because it show how an autistic individual, who has probably been made fun of his whole life and made to feel like he wasn't normal, can achieve great things in life. I see so many of my friends dropping out of college saying how the workload and material is too complex and here you have someone who has had all odds against him achieve something as great as becoming the star of a game. This clip has inspired to stop saying "I can't" and focus more on saying "I can" .
This is with out a doubt a heart warming and motivating clip. I think its great that he got a chance to shine. There is no reason to treat people with a disability any different than what we would treat anyone else. They are NORMAL people like everyone else because there is no real definition for what is normal. I think we should always strive to help accomidate those whom are less fortunate than us in life and i believe that is exactly what the coach and the student body did. These people helped Jason achieve a experience that will be a highlight of his life.(and little did they know that given the chance that he would succeed as well as he did)

This is definitely a beautiful video. Society should realize that people are equal no matter what their color or disability. I think that it is great when people step outside the box and help a fellow human being in the process. Not only was this a great thing for the coaches to do but also Jason found out that he could do it.This clip is a perfect example of what Kharyn was saying today in her speech. The best revenge for someone who tells you that you can't is to prove them wrong. Jason did exactly that.

This is a great clip that is inspirational to all people and has the audience rooting for the underdog(jason)the whole time. It kind of goes with the speech i did on cool runnings today. Very "heatwarming" and touches almost all audiences. There is no better achievment in life then when someone tells you can't do something and you prove them wrong and do it. Great story.

I had seen the game on espn highlights, i had no idea that he was autistic. That was incledible. It gave me the same feeling as when i saw the movie rudy, how a waterboy overcame adversity and was able to score 20pts in 4 mins. It is noticable that he is appreciated by everyone in the school. This dealing with his disablity and the coach allowing him to get into the game shows alot in the character of the people in that school. The scoring 20pts was amazing because there are people without disabilties who could score that many all night. That was impressive and shows that people with disabilities can achieve more than people expect.

This says to not to under estimate people no matter what there disability is, weather it be auticisim, being shorter than average, or any thing else that can be looked at as a disability. Set high expectation for ones around you, and you will get great results

This story argues that people should not be doubted. Despite the young mans differences he overcame them and blew everyone out of the water with six amazing three pointers. I'm sure people doubted him because he is autistic which has a connotation that is not equivalent to that of a "normal" human being. Everyone pre judged him and the coach gave him a chance just because of the dedication he put towards the team. He ended up astonishing the crowd and they went wild.

This story was so amazing and can be an inspiration to many people. Although Jason was just the team manager for so many years he never gave up his dedication to the team or the game. His coach finally put him in the last few minutes of the last game not expecting much. But he proved that he could be as good as anyone on the team and surprised everyone in the gym with scoring 20 points. No one beleived that Jason could actually play basketball and make it on the team they probably never even gave him the chance to try just because of his disability. This story shows how people with disablilties are prejudged before everything they do and this story can teach us the lesson to give everyone a fair chance no matter who they are.

This story says that disabilities are a myth, not unlike the Sasquatch. Just because someone isn't born with all the abilites most people enjoy doesn't mean they aren't capable of extraordinary things.
This story also amused me in a "life imitates THE WATERBOY" kind of way. Seriously, different sport, but same story.

This is a story i kept watching on the news, but everytime i began to watch it, it was over. I finally know what the story is about. I think it's one of those grest triumphant stories that need to be heard from time to time.

This story argue that disabilites can also be amazing like anyone else. They may be born with disabilities, but they, like every other human beings learn how to live with what they were born with and try to live a normal life. And this story desmostrates this. Jason McElwan, born with a disability, has ambition and dedication and this has made him achieve what he really wanted. His story has become an inspiration to others.
Being a basketball player myself I have witnessed many different exciting times in my career. I have seen many game winning shots like Jason McElwan's, however, I have never seen or heard of anything like this. By giving Jason the opportunity to be a part of the team is somthing that made Jason feel like he was one of the guys. Yes he may have certain disabilities, but that does not mean he should not be given the same opportunities as everyone else. Jason made that obvious when he finally got the chance to get in the game and actually play basketball rather than do the team duties. Many people may try to argue that since people have disabilities they are not able to do what others are doing. Jason was giving his opprotunity to shine and do exactly what all his other teammates were doing and he proved to them that he may have disabilities but he can still play basketball. Jason did not just play in that last game he was a star.
