I agree strongly with Brittany, mascots are a symbol which the people can grasp more easily than the team name or the players themselves. The mascot becomes a physical representation for the psychological concepts which the team represents to the viewer. They identify so greatly with the mascot, team colors, and other representations that they will often dress themselves in a similar manner. This relates to my definition of communication becuase I defined it as a the relaying of a message from one person to another. The mascot is a communication medium, it is the method by which the message is transmitted. The message being relayed to the viewers is communicated through visual symbols and ideals based on the different mascot characters, as Brittany mentioned, some have different symbolic meanings than others.

A mascot represents a team: it's ferocity, strength, energy, enthusiasm. Mascots engage the audience into the game. Becasue a mascot on the field can move around, it creates a personality for the team, which in turn esabtlishes a connection with the audience. The picture to the left shows Blitz holding a young girl with a thumb's up and the girl is smiling with her ar around Blitz which sends a message to the audience (fans and viewers) that the seahwaks appreciate their excited fans. The whole idea of a mascot is to communicate how spirited the team is. They do this by using beahvior to express and encourage excitement (like with a thumbs up). In my idea of communication, behavior determines a mmajority of a message. Therefore, how the mascot behaves and interacts with the audience is crucial to the representation of a team. Even if a mascot was butterflies and puppies, like brittany mentions, it has a job to represent the team with distinct behavior, so that an audience can see the team as having personality.
A mascot is some thing, typically an animal or human character used to represent a group with a common identity, such as a school, professional sports team, or corporation. It represents spirit, energy, passion and of couse a team which as same as a cheerleader. A mascot also can be reflected and expressed the feeling on the audience. It can't be denied. For example you given, a mascot is able to close to the people and be inspired with enthusiasm. To my own idea of communication, the mascot is the communication of medium that would be directly behavior of the audiece.Symbolizes the communicative force, speech, messages and ideas. It relaxes and opens the mind to share thoughts and ideas. All of this are majority reaction and behavior during the game. However,I think the mascot should be strong and powerful so that the audience would have more much vitality to cheer up the game.

A mascot is a symbol of expression showing the aduience what this team is all about, like coco says, it can represent a sports team, a school or corporation. Depending on what type of mascot and what colors it has, it can either be expressing their strengths or weakness. It gives an idea to the audience what kind of school or team they are, if a football team had a mascot of a tiger, then it would send a message to the audience that they are strong and competitive. If a school's mascot was to be a dolphin, then it would probably mean that this school has a really friendly environment because dolphins are friendly animals. A mascot is a symbol that a group can can relate to.
i agree with brittany that a mascot is a symbolic creature or so representing a team. mascots is seen sometimes as a good luck charm to help a team win or a supportive creature of the team who believes in them. it helps create a symbolic meaning with the crowd about how the team is the best. it relates to my meaning of communication by the mascot being a symbolic feauture of the team creating meaning to the crowd.

A mascot is more for the fans, in professional games. for example with pro sports there are a lot of breaks, such as commercials, time outs, and other small breaks. but the mascot is there for the entertainment value of the fans. the fans pay all this money to come out and enjoy the whole game, breaks included. what it also does is it lets the franchise communicate to the fans that they appriciate that they are there. because if the fans werent there, they would have no job. mascots can also communicate what the team is about, by the way it acts while performing.
i believe that the mascot is a sign. A sign of the domain. as someone may walk on the streets downtown to see grafiti on the buildings we realize that street of area is that gang's turf. not comparing a football team to a gang, but the purpose of grafiti and a mascot is the same. just as i was to wear a 49ers jersy walking into a bar with raider stuff hanged up all on the walls. that tells me that i need to get my butt out lol.
A mascot is a person, animal, or object believed to bring good luck, especially one kept as the symbol of an organization such as a sports team. Mascots are agents working their respective magic to bring about a desired outcome. They boost morale and get the funs riled up; in turn the fans motivate the team they are chanting for, and this inspires the team members. Mascots are primarily a system of support. They communicate to the audience that it is about time to cheer the team on to victory. Not to long ago I went to the Kings vs. Mavericks game and Slamson, the Kings mascot, was in the audience giving away prizes and really interacting with the fans. Slamson is known for his silly antics and creative skits. The point, mascots deliver a positive message of the team through communicating with the larger fan base. I like the point that Jason made about how mascots serve as a medium between players and there fans because I agree.
A Mascot can be a person, an object it can be many other things not only a person. A mascot represents a school or a team. I believe a mascot gives energy to the team mates it encourages them more to play and it also gives energy to the audiences. A mascot stands out especially in proffesional games, it gives the team an image. For example people pay to go see the footbal games and to enjoy it meaning to have fun. Well the players need time to rest, thats when the mascot come and gives the players time to rest. He is entertaining the adiences.
I stongly agree with Aaron a mascot is more for fans. There is halftime during a footbal game imagine how borring it would be without the entertainment. A mascot plays a big roll its not just a person in a costume.
A mascot is a symbol that people associate with a certain team. I agree with Aaron that a team's mascot is for the fans because it can run around at the games and pump up the fans. Mascots bring more entertainment to sports games and children get excited when they see them. Mascots also provide a visual to the team's name and can represent how tuff a team is and how hard they will play during the game.

A mascot is something that represents a team in some kind of way. The mascot audience is the people there to see the game. The mascot intertains them while the game isn't going on. The mascot communicates non verbally to the audience by doing tricks and trying to make the audience laugh.

Kaliicye R.- I pretty much agree with everyone else when it comes to the mascot being there for the team. It's really another thing to associate with the team. It also gives the fans motivation, the more fierce a mascot appears the more pumped and riled the fans would be. I also agree with Amanda when she said the mascot is there for entertainment when the sport isnt.

I believe that a mascot definately makes an impact on a team and it's fans. The mascot sort of stands out as the team itself because they are usually the teams symbol. For instance I am assuming that the bird holding the little girl is Seahawk, or so I hope. I definately agree with Alcidia on how the mascot communicates with the audience and fans although it may not be through verbal communication.
Chantelle
Chantelle (sorry)
I beleive that a mascots importance to a team is different for everyone. Some people feel that mascots are vital in representing the team but others feel that the mascot does not impact the performance of the team. Basically, I feel that mascots are just there to motivate and enterttain the crowd through verbal and non verbal communication. They dont really serve a purpose for the team because they dont really pay attention to it dancing around and yelling and the fans because they are more focused on the game. I know that at my high school no one gave a crap about our mascot and actually i dont even think we had one????
A mascot is supposed to represent the teams strengh and spirit. If you don't knoe much about a team, the masscot send out the first impression. They can also be great to modivate and pump up the crowd.
