Ja Rule is a very important fellow, and as such, when big events and catastrophes of epic porportions transpire, I for one, want to know what Ja thinks. Nice comment, strangely familiar...a syllogism must be made in the spirit of argumentation: Ja Rule is an important commentator on world affairs because he makes tight beats. QUICK: What is the data? Claim? Warrant? Post a correct response and I will forgive your first tardy.

I'll start: claims are "Therefore" statements
Warrants can begin with "Since" and are not stated in a syllogism, but rather "implied" and Data usually begins with "because"...any takers, give it a shot!
DATA:
"Ja Rule is a very important fellow"
Using the word "very" makes the statement an opinion because it personally states to what extent Ja Rule is important. To some people, Ja Rule could be of little importance. There is little data to support the statement that Ja Rule is very important.
CLAIM:
"Ja Rule is an important commentator on world affairs"
Being a hip-hop fan and artist who is critical of Ja Rule's new "thug persona", I think Ja Rule is currently at the nadir of his rap career. His debut in 1998 with the album "Venni Vetti Vicci" was his best work to date. Since then, he has softened up with his raspy singing on songs and submission to 50 Cent. Personally I view Ja Rule as a "has been" in the rap game and feel he has no more importance than I do commenting on world affairs. He is an entertainer and I never saw him exhibit any interest or expertise in world affairs. I personally could care less what Ja Rule thinks of world affairs.
WARRANT:
SINCE "he makes tight beats"
First of all, Ja Rule is rapper and not a producer. Actually, Irv Gotti, CEO of Murder Inc., has made most of Ja Rule's beats to date. Even if Ja Rule did make his own beats, it is opinionated to say that his beats are "tight". Even if I felt his beats were "tight" also, it doesn't justify his opinion on world affairs. Entertainment and world affairs are two completely different, unrelated realms.
In conclusion, Ja Rule's importance as a commentator on world affairs does not hold enough ground as a claim. Ja's ability to make "tight beats" does not exist and has nothing to do with world affairs. It is OK to ask what Ja would do, but labeling Ja as an important commentator is completely opinionated and not valid for argument.
Hey Guys! It was Dave Chappelle, making fun of the stuff on tv after 9/11 when he said Mtv was interviewing musicians to see what they thought about 9/11, and he said, "I know the real world is in crisis, but I have to know, WHAT DOES JA THINK????" Great comments so far! Smiles--S
IS JA A REAL NAME??? I WISH I WAS CALLED JA.
Now, Jenn P--Remember, "because" is a sign of evidence, so "because he makes tight beats" is data, or evidence. You got the claim right. I think a warrant would be Musicians are experts on world affairs. What's the fallacy??? 1 point extra credit, somebody go for it!!!! (Chpt 17 I think? Or 19...gotta go find my book!) :-)
JEFF P. HEY--sorry I called you Jenn and I can't figure out how to edit the previous comment!!!! (And no, it is NOT because I didn't hear you say your name in class!!!)
